These are “Breeze” from the most recent Knitty.
Yarn: Mandarin Petit fingering weight cotton, 1 ball (180m). I used all but 3.75 yards.
Needles: US2 (2.75mm)
Start: June 11, 2007 Finish: June 16, 2007.
Such an economic use of yarn, and such cute socks! I loved making these. I foresee an orange pair in my near future.
I have “Medium” feet, but I made the “Small”. Ankhet on Ravelry is doing the same. Because I used wooden needles, which stick to yarn during hot spells, my gauge came out huge. I’m sure a trip through the washer and dryer will solve this, but I might go down to size 1 next time around.
Fun tip for lefties and/or anyone who knits off the right needle onto the left instead of the more common way: If you are making the small or large, knit the toe Set-Up Row #2 for the Medium instructions. If you make the Medium, knit Set-Up Row #2 from the Small instructions.
Note especially the cute but difficult to photograph heel detail.
I’ve always really wanted to enter some knitted thing in a state fair. Someday perhaps I will create something of the correct technical sophistication. But for right now, I generally reach a point in every knitting project where I shrug off some minor flaw by reminding myself, “Hey, it’s not like I was going to enter this in the state fair.”
